Grenadian writer Merle Collins was born in Aruba in 1950. She is the author of two novels,
Angel (1987, published in revised version in 2011) and
The Colour of Forgetting (1995), two collections of short stories,
Rain Darling (1990) and
The Ladies Are Upstairs (2011), and three collections of poetry,
Because the Dawn Breaks: Poems Dedicated to the Grenadian People (1985),
Rotten Pomerack (1992), and
Lady in a Boat (2003).
She is Emeritus Professor of English at the University of Maryland, and divides her time between Grenada and the USA.
